Where I’ve Been:

I sincerely apologize for the extended absence, everyone. Life has been a bit unkind as of late. I lost my aunt just a few weeks ago and then my grandpa on the evening of April 15th. With all of that going on, it has been quite difficult to motivate myself to do much of anything, including write here. Most days, I’m on auto-pilot, just trying to make it through. Work, sleep, food, rinse, and repeat. I’m here, though. It’s one of those situations where I am trying my best to take it day by day. Thanks for being patient with me. I hope you enjoyed my favorite looks from the past month.

Look of the Week: March 4th-March 11th

Look of the Week: Just for Fun

My favorite look this week came to me while watching “Skin Wars”. I wanted to do something bold and colorful. Bold, bright eye shadows are probably my favorite. They allow for so much more creativity than neutrals. Of course, they aren’t considered suitable for everyday wear by most people, but they make such a statement that I find it hard to care.

Creating the Look

My brows were the first thing I did. They usually are. It’s a shame that they aren’t actually visible without filling them in. I have eyebrows, they’re just too light in color to actually see. Using tape, I created the line where I wanted the shadow on my brow bone to stop. The first color used was a metallic white. I applied it to my entire lid, up to my eyebrow. Next, I went in with a bright green from the inner corner to right around the middle of my brow bone. From the middle of my brow bone to the outer corner, I used a bold blue. Make sure you blend the colors in the middle before moving on.

A light pink was used on the inner corner of my lid and was blended out to the darker pink that you see on the outer corner. I went in with a bold purple on the lower lash line/waterline. To complete the look, I used a black liquid liner and black mascara. I love the way this looked. It was so much fun. The only real issue is that my camera had a really hard time capturing just how good it looks. It was so much better in person. One of those things you just had to see.

Look of the Week: Everyday Glam

Look of the Week

I had a job interview, so I didn’t want my look to be too over the top. Thinking about it now, no makeup at all probably would have been just as well. While I feel like I look a bit more put-together, the women interviewing me might not have agreed. Being much old than me and not the type to wear makeup at all, they may have thought it to be over the top. I didn’t get the job.

That aside, I looked fabulous. In my own humble opinion, whether I got the job or not, I slayed. First impressions are everything, so I try to make sure that I am always putting the best version of myself out there. I try to stand out in the best way possible.

As always, the list of products used to create this look will be listed below the photo.

Here’s my Look of the Week for February 5th through the 11th:

The Power of Makeup: Before and After

The Power of Makeup

I gets so many comments from day to day on my makeup. Most of them are in regard to how well done it is. Some, however, are related more to how much I wear. “Is it really necessary to put on a full face everyday?” “You could just put on a bit of mascara. There’s no need to pile it all on all the time.” “Don’t you think you should let your skin breathe?” It’s as if it’s shameful to just want to put on makeup everyday. Why? I love makeup! To me, putting it on is FUN. The power of makeup is so evident when you see the transformation.

I started to do a MOTD post tonight, because my makeup was on point. You know it’s on point when straight men say it is. However, because there are those who question my frequent use it and even try to guess how bad my acne must be underneath, I think this is more appropriate. To display the clear power of makeup and allow them to see why I love it, I’m doing a before and after. This should also clear up the questions about my acne.

Before:

So, here’s the before. As you can see, thanks to proper skin care, I’m blemish-free. While that’s obviously not an issue, though, there are other issues. My eyebrows are barely there. I have crazy short eyelashes. My eyes are too big for my face. I look tired and old. There’s no other way to put it. Look at me!

Honestly, I’m even a little bit splotchy. No, it isn’t just the freckles. I’m splotchy for sure. And, looking at those dark circles, I could probably use a bit of sleep and plenty of water. That being said, though, I have pretty good skin. I wash it twice daily, use a good moisturizer, and never go to bed with my makeup on. At night, I use the Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar. After washing away my makeup, I apply Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream. In the morning, I wash my face with L’Oreal Go 360 Clean to refresh my face and get rid of excess oil before applying makeup. As I said, good skin care is super important.

After:

Here’s the after. This is why I love the transformation. It’s so, so rewarding to me. I go from looking splotchy and like my eyes are too big for my face to looking like this. By the way, this was my Makeup of the Day today.

The Power of Makeup

Look at that! My eyes fit my face. My skin has color. I have EYEBROWS. Makeup allows you to transform, completely transform. From looks like this to the creations brought to us on the silver screen by makeup artists around the world, makeup is capable of so, so much. Makeup is powerful and incredible. As for why I wear a full face everyday? I do it BECAUSE I WANT TO. That’s all the reason I will ever need.

xoxo

Makeup of the Day: Obvious Glam

You can’t tell from the picture, but I had a pretty slammin’ cut crease going on today. And I must have done well with my makeup today, because someone who usually throws shade said she loved it. Without further ado, here is today’s look:

Makeup of the Day

Look at those lashes, ladies & gents! Just look at them! I am absolutely in love with Revlon’s Beyond Natural Lashes. They look awesome. I have them linked below in the list of products used for this look. I used neutral colors on my eyes and a nude lip. My makeup bag has tons of bold colors, but I like to save them for my Fridays. It gives me something to look forward to each week. Onto the products…

After looking at this picture, I realized I’d make a pretty hot scientist. If I ever decide to really do something with my life, that’ll definitely be it. The only reason I haven’t decided on something yet is that it’s difficult to choose from the myriad of things that I want to do. I have so many passions from beauty to physical sciences to social sciences. How do you choose?
I’d love to hear your feedback and, furthermore, to see looks that you’ve created. I also definitely encourage you to subscribe if you enjoy my posts. Subscribing will ensure that you never miss a post.

Look of the Week: Subtle Glam + Bold Lip

Look of the Week

My favorite Look of the Week came from a day time look. I decided to turn up the volume on it with a bold lip. The result was amazing. It’s a look that I love. I don’t wear bold lip color to work super often. I didn’t mind before, but then I was asked if I was under the impression that Halloween was coming. It’s not the comments that bothers me. I just don’t have the patience for that level of negative interaction. I love bold lip color. Period.

Anyway, here is my Look of the Week:

Again, I sincerely apologize for the severe lack of content over the past week. Power outages are rough and catching up at work after an ice storm is even rougher. I work in the meat department and everything on the grocery side of the store was wiped out completely two days in a row. It was hectic to say the very least.

Remember, sometimes a bold lip is all it takes to take your look from everyday glam to evening sultry. Also, checkout Walmart right now! The cosmetics department has a lot of good things on clearance, making all of it half price.

Stay beautiful, loves!

Makeup of the Day: Everyday Glam

Today’s Makeup of the Day actually came from yesterday’s look. I successfully put on falsies for the first time in a long time yesterday. It’s amazing how difficult that can be. The local Walmart had several eyelash sets on clearance this weekend, so they were all half price. Back on topic, this look was just something simple and work-appropriate. I used a nude palette for the eyes as well as a nude lip. This is a look that I was very pleased with. It would be well-suited for so many different occasions.

Here is the look:

Quick Note

I want to apologize for the lack of “Makeup of the Day” posts over the past week. We had an ice storm and lost power. And, honestly, after that, I was just focused on getting back into my groove. It’s amazing how much two days of no electricity can throw you off. If I had written a post last week, the Look of the Day would have been from Sunday. I put my makeup on in the dark with nothing but my flashlight on my phone. My makeup came together surprisingly well that day.
Until next time, loves…
Stay beautiful!

My Daughter Did My Makeup

Ava Did My Makeup..

And honestly, for a 9-year-old, she didn’t do a completely terrible job. She was incredibly cautious, making sure not to get anything in my eyes. My eyeshadow palette is her new favorite things. There are so many colors and she couldn’t decide on just one. She blended together blue, turquoise, and purple. Her goal was to make my eyes look like a galaxy. She wanted to use a bold red lip, but I told her that the lip color should compliment the eyeshadow. Here is the overall look that she created for me:

My Daughter Did My Makeup

So I Did Her’s..

I promised her that I’d do her’s when she finished mine. She asked that I do her’s the way I would mine. I kept her eyes neutral because she’s only 9-years-old. For the same reason, I also used a neutral eye palette (you can find it here). I’ve never done anyone else’s eyeliner, so this was a fun experience. She’s a kid, so she’s really not great at sitting still and that made for a rough time in keeping the line straight. I realized afterwards that I’m insanely jealous of her eyebrows. They look amazing. Here is my look on her:

My Daughter Did My Makeup

I ask that you refrain from any negative commentary. We did this for fun and, yes, I realize that she’s way too young for so much makeup. She’s incredibly beautiful without it. This was just a fun thing to do with her and we both really enjoyed it.

XoXo,

Makeup of the Day: Purple & Black Cut Crease

Today’s Makeup of the Day was a bit bolder than my usual daytime looks. I had no real plans for the day, but I wanted to look pretty. That’s where the look came in. I used white, black, and two shades of light purple on my eyes. The lipstick used this time was a bit more pink than what I usually wear. My overall look was bold, but it’s easily one of my favorites.

Here is today’s look:

All in all, I’m really pleased with this look. It may not be quite as bold as I thought, because people here in town seemed to really love it. I have since washed it off and am preparing to let my 9-year-old daughter do my makeup. Assuming that I don’t lose an eye in the process, I will definitely post pictures. Just don’t expect something stellar or professional. We’re doing this for fun.

Favorite Look of the Week: January 1st to January 7th

My Favorite Look This Week

I’ve gotten to where I do my makeup everyday, even if there’s no reason to do it. I don’t have to be going anywhere or doing anything special. For me, it’s about staying in practice to master various techniques. After all, practice makes perfect. My favorite look of the week for this week came after days of practicing the “cut crease” technique. After all of that practice, my look just came together perfectly and I was so satisfied. And to make things even better, the photo I took was one of the best that I have ever taken of myself.

So, here it is. My most satisfying look of the week:

Look of the Week
Look of the Week, January 1st through the 7th

There’s nothing about this look that I don’t like. It turned out perfect and it lasted through a 9 hour day at work. That’s some serious staying power!

Products Used:

You’ll see me mention e.l.f. products a lot. They are some of my very favorite because of both the price point and the quality. It’s not that I haven’t experienced other brands, because I have. I just really love most of e.l.f.’s product line. While I’m talking about e.l.f., if you’re never tried their Makeup Lock & Seal, you definitely should. It helps bring make most eyeshadows look bolder in color and keeps it in place all day.
